Pratt Farm Riparian Restoration
The Pratt Farm demonstration project involved the restoration of a one- mile agricultural ditch network that drained directly into headwaters of the Chesapeake Bay. The ditch was reconfigured to emulate the sinuosity of a natural creek, which is expected to reduce sediment runoff. A series of freshwater wetlands were also incorporated to absorb excess nutrients from farm runoff. Finally, native trees, shrubs and warm season grasses were planted along the creek to serve as a buffer for both nutrients and sediments.
